Prevail Sport Going Out of Business

Prevail Sport going out of business

Well, this is a bummer at least for me. If you’ve followed me for a while you know I’m a big supporter of the brand Prevail Sport. I know several others that are supporters of theirs too. Sadly I got a promotional email yesterday that they are going out of business. At least the reason behind the closing is stated for retirement.

I discovered them over 20 years ago in my college days. They’ve been a staple in my underwear drawer ever since. I love the fit of their bikinis and thongs especially their string brief and thong. I also enjoy their french secret brief, rio brief, zealand brief and med thong. Their cuts remind me of the posing suits that bodybuilders wear for competitions. For me they are going to be a hard brand to replace at their reasonable prices.

Like I said the reason for the closing is for retiring, which is a positive reason to close up shop at least. Would be nice if they would sell their designs and someone else would continue selling them at decent prices. Guess I’ll keep an eye out for that possibility. For now I’ve placed an order for several pairs. If they have stock still in a few weeks I may place another round to make sure I can have them to wear for years to come.

I wish them a happy retirement. It’s well deserved after offering sexy underwear for men for 30 years. It’s been a pleasure wearing Prevail Sports bikinis and thongs. I’ll continue to wear them until they can not be worn anymore. If you’re a fan, don’t miss out on adding some new pairs before you can’t. If you haven’t tried them, time is running out. There is no official closing date. They’ll close up shop when the last pair is sold.

I was hoping that you would have posted something about prevailsport going out of business. I saw the email just yesterday ….kind of a shock I have to say, but I guess these things happen. I really liked prevailsports’ classic cuts….to me they totally summarized the retro and classic looking bikinis from the 80s with their high cut sides and skimpiness. That look had me sold on them the first time I came across the website. I lament their closing of shop….its definitely a sad day for the world of men’s underwear in my opinion. One would hope that with a retirement, someone could have taken over. I have to be honest that I found some of their stuff hit and miss as far as fit (with the multipacks) some pairs did not fit at all, while others fit perfectly. I just decided it was worth it to keep buying from them because their style/cuts were so hard to find. I think with the loss of prevailsport I’ll buy from hunkwear.com and deejay.com.au. Not sure if those companies are the same (both aussie) because some of their undies look pretty similar to each other. I’ve bought from them and can definitely recommend them as a substitute to prevailsport.

That figures- I used to like the 3 thongs I have from them now I love em was gonna get more after the holidays gettin away from the Candyman 9586 g string which is down to only 3 colors . Prevail sport is much more upscale- if they’re almost giving stuff away I’ll push up the timetable shoulda seen it coming- they’ve been out of a few colors for months on some styles I like Are they sayin when is the end BD?

No, they just said until the last pair sells. Right now they are offering 32% off $45 orders, which is a sale they’ve ran in the past. Guess it depends on the selection you want to have when to buy. They said they are no longer buying new fabrics and supplies. I wasn’t planning on spending money on underwear or swimwear, but I didn’t want to miss out on having some new pairs on hand from them. I’ll consider more if they offer better deals.

This is truly a sad day for us Prevail Sport lovers. Over the years I have grown to enjoy the String Thong, and more recently the Micro Thong from them. For me, the fit and feel are incredible. I have to agree with Bikini Obsessed as far as the fit has been concerned. Over the years, I have purged some thongs that were just too tight, but the majority have been spot-on. They have been so affordable, especially when on sale, that to throw away a pair now-and-then wasn’t really a concern for me. We can only hope that someone will buy Prevail Sport and keep us thong addicts happy for years to come.

Maybe it’ll be a situation that retailers have pulled before- they’re ‘going out of business ‘ but miraculously they’re back

    • Bikini Obsessed says:

Hey EJ…I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully that is the case – just to keep us prevailsport fans interested. Its been awhile since I’ve bought from them and here I am placing an order in panic hehe. Ordered more string briefs : )

    • The Bottom Drawer says:

If they come back, my guess it will be under different ownership, which is what a few places like the retailer undergear, I think freshpair, and the brand JM did. I don’t know if they are considering selling or just going to close and enjoy retirement.

When I read this heading I immediately thought the company had gone bust and probably owed money to creditors. On reading further down I realized the reason for the closure was due to retirement, not bad business practice,so I think we have to sack Nate’s headline writer(lol). I personally don’t have any Prevail garments and I don’t know if they were a popular brand here in the UK, but some of the guys on here were obviously big fans,so it is to be hoped that the company’s designs might be taken up by another company.
It can’t be easy for underwear companies in the West to compete against the producers in the Far East, but judging by the 20+ years that Nate has been dealing with Prevail, they were obviously well respected and supported by their customers. I hope the owner’s retirement proves to be anything but brief(groan).

It got you wondering didn’t it? Though really retiring and closing up shop is still consider going out of business. Just is on positive terms instead of the way a lot of others have been going out of business.

  6. EJ says:

Prevail Sport is quality stuff they ain’t no Asian buy 4 thongs for $20 & free shipping thing- I’ll stick to my guns see what happens next year

  7. Dan says:

A big shock getting the email in my inbox and a sad day as I absolutely love Prevail’s. thongs and bikinis. For me, they represent the traditional thong style and cut which is difficult to find nowadays. I will try and pick up a couple more pairs before it’s too late.

I purchased when I saw the notification on the website. But now when I checked as of this writing, (2019.10.10 at 1:54pm, there’s currently no longer ‘Out of Business’ blurb on the Prevail Sport.

    • RJ says:

Their website homepage indicates that they took the out-of-business promo down to the high volume of orders and resultant backlog in processing. The promo will go back up once they have cleared the shipping. Still going out of business, unfortunately!

      • The Bottom Drawer says:

Good catch RJ. I didn’t notice the text on their home page about it. Guess they got a lot of orders in with the sale.

  9. EJ says:

Yes and they have new arrivals

    • The Bottom Drawer says:

Their new arrivals aren’t really that new. Probably just listing so many of the last ones they’ve added to the site. Some of the fabrics I’ve seen them call new were ones I’ve seen in the past. Guess could be a new supply of fabric. I guess we’ll see how things play out.

  10. EJ says:

But #4 White Zebra on the North Star thong still sold out- has been for months

    • RJ says:

Their homepage also indicates that the out-of-business promo has resulted in a lot of sold-out products, but they haven’t been able to update their site to acknowledge such. If sold out now, will never be replaced, unfortunately.

  11. EJ says:

Does anyone know another code besides J74? That expired

  12. EJ says:

Further research revealed they’ll run the going out of business promo after current orders are shipped- understandably they were bombed with orders

  13. RJ says:

On a related note as to the level of customer service that Prevail Sport provided. My favourite bikini is the Prevail Sport cotton rio; have at least 30 pair. However, the colour options in the cotton rio are rather limited. At the same time, my favourite thong is the cotton med thong; have at least 40 pair of those. The cotton med thong is offered in a much broader range of colours and patterns than is the cotton rio bikini. Really wanted the cotton rio in the midnight colour, which is essentially dark navy, so thought I would call them to see if they could customer make these for me. Very friendly, and very helpful. Once they confirmed that they had enough material, I was able to order 10 pair of the midnight cotton rio (minimum order size was 5 pair), for a small special order fee of US$10 on top of the cost. Received the order a week later!
Will be placing some final orders to stock up on my favourite bikinis and thongs before Prevail closes their door forever. These need to last me a life time, as I don’t know where else I’m going to find the great quality with the great style for which Prevail was known!

  14. EJ says:

I hear ya RJ- was thinking of going almost all Prevail Sport next year little by little I’ll have to wait for next going out of business code to get as much as I can unfortunately I’m a size medium my only hope is the 3 thongs I like aren’t popular I’d get 3 of each at least .Coulda shoulda woulda when J74 was good!!

  15. JR says:

After reading this, it a definitely a bummer , but wish them well in retirement !! They make great products and have always had reasonable prices. When ordering is it easier to call then to use website so you know what colors and styles are still in stock?

    • The Bottom Drawer says:

I’ve never called to order, so I don’t know if they know what is available in their back end systems or how they keep track. Their website has pretty much been the same for the last 20 years. On their site they always have suggested to enter a secondary color option. When they start running their sale again then they should have things back up to date on availability. You could make a list of what you want and the color options and be ready when the sale comes around again. Then you can either call or use the website.

  16. Blkmlthng says:

I finally received my order from them this pas weekend and it was worth the wait. To me their Rio Brief especially the PLR Rio Briefs are the best I have worn especially for the price. They were the first company I ordered from when I began wearing styles such as thongs, g-strings, string bikinis which helped evolve my collection to where it is today. I may place one more order, if they have anything available, so that I will have them for years to come. I have some thongs that are over 10 years old from prevail sport that I still wear and are in good condition still. Sorry to see them go.

    • The Bottom Drawer says:

Took awhile to get mine too, but worth the wait. Going to be hard to find a replacement especially at the price point.

  17. EJ says:

    No more Capricorn Thongs

  18. The Bottom Drawer says:

The closing sale is back on until they reach 250 orders then they will pause it again. The code is J74 for 32% off $45 order.

    • RJ says:

Final order placed. Feeling almost lost, as I’ve been buying bikinis and thongs from Prevail for well over 20 years. Not sure what I will find to replace such a great retailer.

  19. Bikini Obsessed says:

So why does the Prevail website no longer say ‘Going out of Business’? Is this just a false flag to get us to buy more? Lol!

    • The Bottom Drawer says:

They said they’d stop the sale when they reached 250 orders, so they could get them shipped and update their website to what is remaining. So we have to assume they are still working on depleting inventory while trying to get customers their orders in a reasonable time frame. I know my order took longer than typical to receive.

  20. Funderwear says:

Retirement kind of seems like an awful excuse to be going out of business. I feel like if they were doing well it could have been handed off to someone else. While I liked most of the underwear I purchased from them, I really can’t stand their website. It looks like it was created in 1997 and was never updated once and has a really bad user interface. I also never understood why the thong backs were always either black or white. Just seemed lazy to me. Anyways it’s ashame to see them go. They made nice underwear but definitely seemed behind the times.

    • The Bottom Drawer says:

Pretty good chance their website was created back then. It’s pretty much the same look I remember from when I started buying from them about 20 years ago. Though it does seem to work on a phone now. My guess is they figure it works, so why invest into it. I do agree it could have been updated many years ago. If I remember right it is built on what was Yahoo stores.

To me it would make sense to try and at least sell the brand and styles especially for more retirement funds. I guess time will tell. Others have mentioned the black tails too and wondered the reasoning behind it. All I’ve heard are theories about it. Not really something I’ve thought much about it. Mainly the fit and comfort are my main concerns in general. Thanks for joining in on the conversations.

  21. EJ says:

Breaking the bank til they close- I went from 3 thongs I bought a few years ago to 15 in the last 2 weeks they feel so nice on the package especially after manscaping. The beauty about underwear is it’s durable even cheap stuff from Asia can last for years especially if you use lingerie bags and air dry em flat
