Review: Daniel Alexander Freedom Thong (DA774)

Daniel Alexander Freedom Thong (DA774)I accidentally bought this Daniel Alexander thong model. I thought it was their DA780 and I was just adding a new color while it was on sale. I guess I didn’t pay close enough attention to the photos. Basically it is a slimmed down version of the DA780. For those that are familiar with Joe Snyder it is similar cut to their Rio Thong, though DA fabric is lighter weight. I prefer the DA lightweight fabric, since my goal is underwear over swimwear. I wasn’t going to review this pair, since I thought it was on the way out a while ago. I noticed they still have some offering in it, so I decided to spit out a review on it.

Here’s the details on the pair. It is made of a blend of 86% Polyamide and 14% Spandex. The back tail and sides both measure in at about 3/4″. The care instructions recommend hand washing and/ hanging them to dry. The thong has a centered seamed narrow contour pouch. They placed their logo on the triangle of the back of the thong, which I do like that placement for logos.

My thoughts on this pair is that the Freedom Thong is pretty similar to their DA780 that I really like. It has a narrower U-shape pouch which really barely contains. Can take a little adjusting to get everything stuffed in! Not a good thong choice for those packing below the belt. Manscaping is recommended for this thong. The pouch holds great and isn’t going to let you move much. The tail of the thong is only slightly narrower than the DA780 and the sides are about the same. I like how the tail fits of this thong. It is very comfortable just like the DA780. I did have to cut the tag out of the thong. It was fairly long and was in the pouch. Not particular the best placement for it though I get the rear wouldn’t work that well either.

Overall this is a solid thong. Fits great all the way around. Now, I do like the DA780 version better. I like a little more frontal coverage than this thong, which the DA780 has. Other than that it is basically the same thong. So if you like a barely there frontal coverage then maybe this is a thong to look into. Like more of a moderate coverage than the DA780 is a great choice. Read my Daniel Alexander Thong DA780 review here.

Oh I really like the DA774, I much prefer the narrower pouch over the wider DA780, nice colour too, i haven’t got any purple thongs, but I could definitely enjoy wearing this one.

I’m currently on the opposite side. I have not worn the DA774, but sometimes for me the DA780 is a little narrow – or maybe not stretchy enough. I couldn’t imagine wearing the 774 that is even more narrow. I like how skimpy the 780 is, but have to make sure I am adjusted properly so I don’t have ball slip.

Love Daniel Alexander underwear/swimwear and this is in my favourite colour. Just a pity that custom taxes and delivery costs make them too expensive to buy here in the UK.

I tried Daniel Alexander as a replacement for Cover Male after suffering too many sizing issues, so never knowing just what I was going to get size-wise. Unfortunately, Daniel Alexander suffered from the same problem, so I’ve given up on them. Both companies had their products manufactured in Colombia at the time, so may have been the same factory.

That was five years ago, so this all might have changed, but it’s too late. For anyone who has tried these skimpy styles in good faith but been disappointed, I don’t blame you for just going back to chain-store stuff.

I noticed similarities with Cover Male and DA gstrings, particularly the colour options, but I felt the DA’s were sized slightly bigger in the pouch and understrap, than Cover Male.

The blog is still going. Just on a bit of a hiatus with some sporadic posting. At the moment I do not have any glow items in line to give a whirl.
