Review: Sluggers Classic Swim Brief
Sluggers is a new brand for me that I wanted to try out. Their prints are what caught my eye. I’ve been wanting to add some prints to my swimwear collection, since I finally started wearing swim briefs at the local beach. I’ve been tending to go for more in the solids or solids with a little color accent. I actually picked up two pairs, but didn’t realize the problem with the one wasn’t the suit cut. It ended up being the wrong size, which I happened to notice a few months later. If you haven’t seen Sluggers, they suggest their cuts based on body build, which is why I thought the cut might be a little snug for me. As the post title states I received their classic style in the correct size.
This is the swim brief I chose to wear on my vacation with more of the family. You can ready that post here. They call the print Deadly Snake, but it is a discontinued one. I seem to be drawn to solid colors and animal prints. The swim brief fits into my conservative category of swim briefs, since it has full rear and frontal coverage. The sides measure about 1 3/4″, which is on the narrow side for a conservative suit. Three inches is really the max for what I’ll wear for a conservative swim brief.
The swim briefs have a flat front pouch, but I find that it gives enough room upfront. The fabric is a blend of 58% Polyester PBT/42% Polyester. PBT stands for polybutylene terephthalate, which gives the suit it’s stretch along with its Chlorine-resistance. The material of the suit also makes it a quick drying suit. The classic swim brief also has a drawstring to help keep them in place. They recommended this style for rounded bums, solid blokes, rugby players. Then with their body type chart they have them listed for average height/average weight, average weight/tall, and average weight/short.
I enjoyed wearing the swim brief at the house pool on my recent vacation. I felt it perform well in the water. It did have a tad bit of slack near the bottom of the rear when bobbing in the pool, but didn’t notice any when swimming around the pool. Did dry quickly, but that is a great feature of most swim briefs. Overall I think the Sluggers’s classic swim brief is a pretty nice fit and I like how it looks on me.
If you like the style and see a print you like, I’d say give them a try. They are pretty reasonably priced for swimwear. If I see a print I like I’ll consider another pair of the classic style, though might wait for a sale. Don’t really get enough wear out of my swimwear to pay full price. Plus I like a little skimpier of a cut in the back and front. At some point I’d like to try their racerback style too, since it is suppose to have a little less back coverage.

Pros: Good amount of print options. Nice rich colors to the suit. 1 3/4″ sides for a conservative cut suit.
Cons: Flat front pouch (I’m liking the contoured pouch look better now a days)

Interesting but I still prefer the designs/colors offered by Q Swimwear (lots of water polo 2/3 inch sides,) LASC, and Vulty SIM.
Haven’t seen Q swimwear before. They do have quite a selection of prints. Will have to keep my eye on them. LASC and Vuthy Sim are on my interest list.
I tried some sluggers recently. They fit good but odd. While I prefer a flat front, the fabric wasn’t helping the fit. Great for rugged activity though.
My first thought is that this bikini is something Charlie Brown would wear to the beach under his sweater of the same design (good grief!) Maybe Lucy will wear a thong bikini too!
I like Sluggers and own a few suits. The flat front is ample for the average guy. I like that they don’t have Lycra in the fabric, at least not the ones I have. They dry very quickly and feel very light.
I have 2 swim briefs recently purchased. An Aussiebum which I like but is very loose in the front and a Nike which is very tight in front. It flattens my little bulge and someone at Reddit suggested Sluggers because they are looser in front. Are there particular brands that offer a pouch or a moderate amount of room in front. Great site, btw.
Thanks Bruce. Which model is the aussieBum? I have a surge and their 1.5 classic and both of those have a firmer pouch fit than say their Loose fit ones. I feel my Slugger’s Classic swim brief has a similar pouch fit as the two aussieBums I have. I like the Speedo Solars. The have a center seamed contour pouch and are snug fitting. https://us.speedo.com/fitness-solar-one-brief/13235946.html. One that I’m surprised I liked because it has wider sides than I typically go for are Turlock & Co streamline swim briefs. https://turlockandco.com/ I wore them a lot on my recent beach vacation. They have have slight contouring at the base of the front, but appear to be more of a flat front pouch. It seems a lot of the swim briefs I have are no longer offered, so I don’t have a lot of suggestions on what is available out there as to fit.
Thank you so much. I have the Club Original Aussiebum and I do like it. I will check out the Turlock & Co briefs. The Solar might be too tight for me… or I could go up a size to create more of a pouch in front. It seems counter intuitive that I am smaller in front but seek more room, lol. A little pouch would help not compress the package flat. Great site, btw.
