Thongs: The Tail (Back Strap)
It’s what gives thongs their bad rap. That piece of fabric that goes between the butt cheeks. The so-called butt floss that I like to call the tail. Some call it the back strap. You’ve probably heard of whale tails, especially when the thong back is sticking above the waist of the female’s bottoms. It’s what scares most people from trying a thong.
Obviously the tail is what makes a thong and makes them a very sexy cut. Especially for us that enjoy the butt. The tail frames the butt nicely and accentuates its shape. I know my draw to them was seeing them on women and loved how they looked. Got me wondering what it would be like to wear a pair. Unlike many I wasn’t thinking how could the fabric between the cheeks be comfortable. My thought was women wouldn’t wear them if they weren’t comfortable. Now I suppose that isn’t completely true. I think some wear them for their partners for that special time. Maybe some really just wear them for no VPL. Though I think most wear them because they are comfortable with the right pairs.
Yes, I find the tail of many thongs comfortable. It is true they can be bothersome, but it’s about finding the right fit for you. We’re not all the same shape and size, so thongs can fit us differently. People think a thong is like a wedgie. Mmmm….not really though some are more noticeable than others. You’re not getting as much fabric between the cheeks as the norm in undies and no one is pulling on the back waistband. It’s a lot better of a feeling than a true wedgie.
Really some thongs are unnoticeable in-between the cheeks. You forget you are out and about wearing a tiny undergarment. It’s fun when you realize you’ve got a thong on and no one else knows. Then there are thongs that are comfortable, but remind you that there is a thong under your clothes. This may be due to a snugger fit or the tail fabric separating the cheeks a bit. I think these ones are a great way to feel sexy all day with their little reminder. Of course you want to avoid the uncomfortable thongs. I have some that start out comfortable, but can get bothersome before the day is over. I make sure I wear these when I’ll be home or just for exercising. If it is just uncomfortable then time to move onto a different thong and get rid of it.
I’ve tried to give ideas in past posts about what to look for in a thong tail, but it’s kind of a multi-factoring decision. You have the fabric, tail width, the design (cut) of the tail, amount of triangle at the top, how high the pair sits on you, the correct size. Guess could be how high you want it to sit on you. Then you could ask how you want it to feel? Wearing it for the no underwear lines, because there can be thong underwear lines too depending on the thong. So the fun thing about thongs is you can get different looks and feels depending on what you pick. It’s something fun to experiment with. Of course there will be losers, but for me the winners have outweighed the losers. It’s time for one and all to experience the thong.

Wearing is so a common thing to me, that I during the day forget what pair I am wearing. It was not always in that way, but it has ended up that way. Starting up 30 years ago I found thongs very sexy and wanted to wear thongs too, and I wondered if they really was comfortable to wear, so I sat for, to wear only thongs for a week. Unfortunately I had to wear thongs made for women, and I found out that they were not made for men in the front area. But I also found out I liked having the thing between the cracks. I don’t remember completely how, but I think that I in the beginning have been wearing women’s thongs occasionally, and suddenly thongs for men showed up, and started buying them instead of. Today it’s just a mekka online. In the early days it was pretty hard to find male thongs, and I was mostly wearing a thong for special occasions, else I whore speedo like underwear. Sometimes women’s style too, because male underwear was not speedo enough for me (half inch sides) and . About 20 years ago I went fully into only wearing thongs, and just having some thights in the drawer for occasions, where I had to strip down in public in front of friends. I still have that, but I can’t remember when I last was using them? 🙂 When it comes to strip down in front of others, I wear thong or speedo style. Depending on where and in front of whom. But in the end I think it is also a male underwear and I like the way it looks on a male body, both in the front and from the back side. I also sometimes think it’s a kind of funny wearing sexy stuff, and nobody knows what underneath my pants 🙂
You are right about, that different styles can support your mood in what way you want to feel. Some are just for comfort and others just for the sexy thing:-)

I see plenty of guys with their underwear hanging out. Seems to be even the thing to do for some people. Why not allow some whale tail, which is much more enjoyable than what you normally see. You are right that in the beginning of wearing bikinis and thongs you do think more about what you are wearing. Though I think it is more out of concern of what if someone finds out. Takes some time for them to feel like a norm to yourself and then the concerns start to diminish. It is kind of a game trying to remember what pair did I slip into this morning. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely agree on all aspects. People, especially those who never tried it will be quick to dismiss a thong and judge. Yet will but briefs that strangle their balls for the sake of brand name.
Just like any underwear or clothing item. Some is a hit and some not so much. Instead of hating why don’t people just mail the brand and give reveiws. I’m sure most companies will try their best to improve.

I think I prefer the multicoloured thongs the best, although I also really like the last little string. Would love to know where to get them.
The multi-color one was made by Posher rayv50, so not available in the pattern, but last I checked had the style in other print. The g-string is a candyman one which has the waist sizing way off and I ended up altering to make it fit better. Thanks, very true that is what it is like in general with clothing. At least if you aren’t ordering online you can try most other clothing on before you buy it for fit. Though guess they still can become losers after giving them a real wearing like undies and swimwear can.
I like to wear “slingshot” swim thongs at the beach that dip as low and flat as possible in front. I like the girly look, and nothing can pop out the sides. I only got a complaint from someone sitting on a towel, about the rear view when I wore a g-string, so I now wear T-backs like the red thong you show. The snug fit feels good, front & back, and supports and stays on in rough surf.
I love the slingshot look, I’ve bought a few recently, both in thongs and bikinis, but I prefer the pouch to protrude rather than have the low and flat look, its a comfort thing for me, and I dont mind showing off a little. The wife love the look.
So interesting hearing other peoples thoughts. Thankfully, I have very few thongs / G strings that are uncomfortable, I tend to just get rid of them if they are uncomfortable. On most days, I forget which ones I actually wearing, then I play a little game with myself trying to remember, sometimes, I just have to look! 🙂
Like T, I also prefer narrower strings than thicker ones, most of my thongs are actually just strings for the loop (what is the technical term?)
I find the most uncomfortable thongs are the low waisted jobs, that just don’t fit properly, and they are mostly cheap ones from China where I do buy a lot of my thongs and G’s.
Although, my favourites are brands like Gregg Homme and Cocksox, GH do have very narrow strings and Cocksox tend to have wider strings.
I have to agree that tail width doesn’t equate to comfortable, but I believe where a the garment is designed to sit can. Some brands are designed to sit low on the hips and you have to accommodate that. Like the JM thong is shaped like a “normal” brief and would be worn at the natural hip, but (for me) the Euro by Doreance which has a very narrow tail is more comfortable if worn lower. If worn to high the tail gets uncomfortable. Y back thongs are nice also, but some do not like banded thongs. For those that say thongs aren’t comfortable or sexy just have never tried one.
Thanks Nate. I will always said that prevailing sport had the best back strap on thongs. They had the right cut. You put a prevailing sport thong on and if it was the right fit. In five minutes you don’t know that you even have a thong on. I lucky to still have several pairs yet. I will have to put them into the thong museum when I am done with them lol.
Those thongs as depicted just do not do anything for me. There is way too much fabric, sides and tail, for my liking. And yes, I have tried such styles in the past. Now if this was all about g-strings, then I’m in 100% agreement. There are hit and misses with g-strings as well, but a great g-string is a nice garment to wear.
I have lots of different thongs, bikinis, briefs and boxer briefs. I like mixing it up but prefer all of them with a great fitting pouch. I like Bikini and thongs the best as they off me the most in unrestricted movement in my daily activities. I like wild colors and patterns but have plenty of solid colors. I have thongs that I love the look but aren’t all day wears. Each person needs to try different brands and styles of thongs to find which size and cut fits their body best.
Great article. I have about 500 thongs if different colours, shapes and styles and just love them. It’s very much a thong for each day depending on my mood. I don’t understand the taboo around men’s thongs so well done for hitting the issue cock on 😁
