Q & A with AWRY

Awry Underwear Menswear
I was able to do a quick Q&A with the owner, Quinn, of the brand AWRY. They are a fairly new brand that started earlier this year out of Austin Texas. I will be reviewing the pairs shown in the image they sent to me.

Why did you decide to start an underwear/menswear brand?

Having worked in the online underwear retail business for several years prior to starting AWRY, I was constantly receiving a lot of feedback from guys about what they really loved and were looking for in a good pair of underwear. More importantly, I saw that there was significant room for improvement in this space. It seemed like a natural progression to use this feedback and my experience to help create a brand based around what guys really want and are looking for.

Why did you name the brand AWRY?

The name AWRY is a little tongue and cheek. The word “awry” usually means something perverse or wrong, like when you say something “went awry,” that usually means it went wrong. Men often feel like it’s wrong to show some skin or dress sexy. Calling the brand AWRY is my way of embracing that narrow way of thinking and turning it on its head.

I’d agree we are encouraged not to show skin unlike females. I like the spin you took on naming the brand. Do you design your products or work closely with a designer?

Up to this point, I have designed all of the underwear at AWRY. However, I am planning to do some collaboration work in the near future.

What do you feel is the best part about running an underwear brand?

The best part is definitely receiving positive feedback from happy customers. Reading a review from an elated customer or seeing a photo of someone showing off in their AWRY underwear always makes my day.

What do you want people to know about AWRY Menswear?

I would like them to know that we actually care a ridiculous amount about our customers. We understand that it takes a lot of trust for people to try a new brand, so we will always jump through hoops to make sure every customer has a fantastic experience with us.

I’d also like them to know that we also have tons of new underwear in the pipeline that’s unlike anything else out there. I’m really really excited for some upcoming releases.

I want to thank Quinn for taking the time to answer a few of my questions and to help introduce the brand AWRY. Keep watch for my reviews coming soon.

Great q & a ! It always nice to hear about newer brands. After viewing their web page they have some nice styles. The RAW vstring and APEX jockstrap will have to be added to try list !

Checked out their website and was disappointed that there were no g-strings, although in the thong category, I would say the garments were closer to a g-string than a thong. Didn’t like the jock/boxer combination and not just because I don’t like boxers. Who wants to see straps hanging below boxers? Not me. The fan page was interesting although most of the guys featured were more like gym bunnies and Instagram models than regular dad bods.

Maybe a g-string will be coming with them relatively new. I noticed that there wasn’t any average joes on social posts.

Agreed, but it’s early days yet. I’ll let him develop his product range and see what it’s like in a few months.

Couldn’t wait for the review. Styles, sizes, materials, reviews, and price points were all pretty good so I already ordered a couple to try haha.

You should be happy with them I would think. A little disappointed they’re made in China, but probably only way to keep pricing down and make a living. Quality at least seems solid.

I do like these, a lot! Of course shortly after I received mine they released their regular thong, since I liked what I already ordered I went ahead and got another color and tried out their thong. If they didn’t send you a pair I suggest ordering one, they are in my mind what a thong should be! Super light with enough room in front and the waist band is not too big.

I’d like him to design a plain, simple string bikini. These are not as common as you’d expect for men’s underwear, as most designers seem to try too hard and go for over-developed styles in their bikinis.
