Supporter Feature: ThongFan
Next in the Supporter Feature Series, we have ThongFan joining in on some Q&As with me. Let’s get right into it.
When did your interest in bikinis and/or thongs start (age, high school, college, adulthood)?
My interest started right after college more so from a novelty standpoint as I was newly married. Fast forward to a couple years ago and I was having some issues with support due to some surgery I had. Just could not find anything that was comfortable and ran thru boxers, briefs, bikinis and then started with thongs on a daily basis. Thongs have been one of the best full time decisions I’ve made.
What sparked the interest?
Like I said initially it was more a novelty as I was newly married. Now it’s more comfort and support.
How long have you been wearing them?
Full time about 3 years. But I have worn them sporadically since the late 1990’s.
What does your wife think about you wearing thongs?
She has been a thong wearer since she was 17 or 18 years so she understands the comfort that comes along with a thong. She has no real issues with my choices and is of the opinion that comfort is all that matters.
Has it been the same as when you first tried them as newlyweds as it is now?
Initially she saw them as more a novelty item like I did that was only worn when on special occasions or a date night. Even back then she didn’t really mind me wearing them. Now as we both have aged she understands the need to be comfortable by wearing what makes you feel good and provides ample support. She’s pretty supportive and always has been in that arena. She’s said many times “it’s just underwear”.
Do you wear them as just underwear or do you wear them as swimwear too? If you wear them as swimwear, when did you begin wearing them? If you don’t wear them as swimwear, are you interested in doing so?
I would not be opposed to wearing as swimwear however I dislike swimming. I love the water. But don’t like swimming. I was a competitive swimmer up until I was 18 so I’ve grown to develop an aversion to water. So I’m not anti swim thong. I’m just anti water! Unless of course I’m taking a shower.
I know you said you liked thongs for comfort and support, are there any other reasons why you enjoy wearing the style as underwear?
For me the #1 thing is comfort and support. However I do agree that there’s something about wearing a thong that provides a bit of “freedom”. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that you are wearing one and no one knows it or if it’s just a bit of a fantasy thing by wearing it when society says you shouldn’t. I’d probably argue it was a bit of both when I first started wearing them full time. That has subsided a bit and most of the time I’m not even thinking about having one on. It’s just a part of my everyday wardrobe.
Does anyone other than your wife know you wear thongs? If so, was their reaction positive or negative when they found out?
For now just the wife knows.
What do you feel is the hardest thing for you with breaking the norm in underwear?
Hard question to answer. To me the hardest thing is understanding that your choices put you in a certain category. And those categories don’t have a section for popularity. Based on what society says , thongs are for a certain demographic. It’s acceptable for certain people to wear them. The vast majority of all websites selling thongs caters to a certain demographic. Wearing a thong does come with a certain stigma. But it’s a stigma only because someone says it is. It’s not supposed to be what I wear because someone or society told me so. That’s probably the reason I’ve always had thongs but never wore them daily. I was worried what someone thought. As you get older you care less about what people think. I think my wife sums it up the best when she says “it’s just underwear.”
What would you say to someone that wants to venture away from the norm in men’s underwear and try bikini or thong underwear?
My first advice is to do your research. There’s plenty of online forums where you can ask advice and questions from other thong wearers. Since most stores do not sell thongs for men (some do sell bikinis) it’s hard to know what material, cut, brand and style you prefer.
My second piece of advice is to decide what type of cut you like whether it be bikinis, traditional thongs, g strings, etc. Then buy one and see if you like it. Thongs can be expensive. Narrow down your options before you buy a bunch of underwear you ultimately don’t like or wear.
Finally once you decide what style, brand and material you like, shop around online and look for a retailer that accepts returns. That way if you don’t like something you can return it. Since you will have to pay a little more for thongs vs traditional underwear (this is another topic that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me) be really picky on what you buy and make sure you can return if you don’t like something. There’s really not much worse than a bad fitting thong but not much better than a good fitting one.
What is your favorite brand(s)?
My favorite brand is Jack Adams followed by Intymen and Agacio.
How about your favorite pair(s)?
Favorite pairs are the jack Adams bikini thong and the jack Adams naked fit thong. Both can be expensive so look for sales and discounts. Excellent material and cut. In this instance you get what you pay for. I also like the Intymen Ten Men’s thong and the sport thong. Both are a nice cut and fit and are a little less expensive. Agacio has several that are nice such as the sexy ultra soft thong. Has a great pouch with great support.
I want to thank ThongFan for contacting me with his interesting in joining in this series. It’s great to hear from other people and their experiences with going against the norm in men’s fashion. Interested in joining the series. Hit me up through my contact form.
Ways to Support The Bottom Drawer by Shopping
Good advice about doing your research before trying a thong for the first time. Getting the sizing right is a priority otherwise you can be put off especially if it’s too tight in the tail. Price doesn’t always guarantee comfort, so probably best to go for a less expensive option before moving on to the more popular and dearer brands.
Great interview , thanks for sharing Thongfan.
Thongfan thank you for sharing your experiences. Researching the different brands, materials, cuts is very important to find what fits you best.
