Summer Underwear: Beating the Heat
July and August were a pretty hot month for us with a bit of a cool down at the end of August. It got me back to thinking of underwear for summer. I know I make a transition in my underwear choice when it warms up. So how about we look at how underwear can beat the heat.
Underwear Fabric
First thing with underwear to beat the heat would be fabric choice. Although cotton is a good absorber, it’s not a fabric choice I see for beating the heat. Normally it isn’t lightweight and breathable enough for me. Light fabrics are what I look for during the summer time to help keep cool. Also fabrics that dry quickly or don’t feel damp when you’re sweaty. Mesh fabrics can be a good option. Fabrics that allow you to breathe are key. A lot of pairs I go for are a polyester or nylon blend with spandex or lycra. Still need to pay attention to the fabric thickness to have breathability.
Underwear Style
The style you choose can make a big difference with beating the summer heat. Think about the coverage. Which would be cooler: boxer brief or brief? How about a brief or bikini brief? Then what about a bikini brief or thong? Maybe a g-string. Then there is always commando, but that doesn’t fit the topic of summer underwear. Less fabric is going to be cooler.
My Underwear Transition
As I mentioned I make a bit of a summer transition with my underwear wearing. My normal choice in underwear is a mix of bikinis and thongs. When the warmer weather hits I pull out thongs more often. I typically go with lighter weight fabrics that let everything breathe. I avoid cotton and cotton blends. I pick ones with synthetic blends like polyester and nylon with some spandex or lycra. Typically they are faster drying and wick sweat better.
Some of My Summer Underwear Picks
Probably my top pick for summer wear is the Doreanse Aire Thong. With its string sides and very lightweight fabric it helps with keeping it cool. It’s surprisingly supportive for how skimpy it is.
Another great option I like to pull out is my Intymen Sports thong. It’s made of a sports mesh fabric that breathes well. I find it to be a very comfortable thong really for year round wear.
One in the bikini department is the Cut4Men’s Renaissance Briefkini. With its string sides, lightweight fabric, and ½ back cut, it allows coolness to happen. Surprisingly the back stays fairly well in place too.
Occasionally I’ll throw on a g-string in an attempt to keep it cool. I have a Daniel Alexander (model DAL020) one that offers decent support. Then a new acquisition is a DomiGe ice silk g-string that offers really good support for a g-string.
That’s a few pairs I like to wear to try and keep a bit cooler in the summer months. There are several others I’ll wear too. Normally a thong with lightweight fabric and material that wicks or dries fairly quickly.
Wrapup
Do you change up what underwear you wear during warmer weather? If not, maybe it is something you should consider. Keep that base layer light and breathable. Less fabric makes a big difference too. Give it a whirl.
Ways to Support The Bottom Drawer by Shopping

Just a thought but for summer months I wear just a support strap only (no coverage) when I have days off ,the smalllest an so enjoy wearing these , you can email me on any details if interested regards Terry.
That’s an interesting option. I’m assuming that means no fabric covering.
Yes that right, just some support from underneath and around your balls to hold them up .
My choice of underwear isn’t influenced by the weather or temperatures. I wear g-strings,string bikinis and an occasional jockstrap throughout the year. I don’t know how guys can wear bulky boxers etc especially on hot summer days.
One thing you have not mentioned is that, for many of us, as the temperature increases so does the humidity, and it’s this combination that makes the summer uncomfortable. So while I don’t change my underwear styles as the weather changes, one of the reasons I moved to the string bikini style is because the reduced amount of fabric makes for a cooler and more comfortable experience. Fabrics such as nylon/spandex blends are better than cotton, and offer better moisture wicking while still maintaining good support. I wear the same style year round because I find a string bikini comfortable, regardless of whether the day is warm and humid or cool and dry.
We need to keep in mind that for some men who are thick-thighed, and we have had one on here who has commented on this, longer legged underwear styles are better for them as their thighs can chafe when walking.
You could expand this article into covering sleepwear styles, since what we wear at night is also dictated by the weather for many of us. That’s where the extreme type g-strings are my favourite. They have just enough material to strap the penis so that it doesn’t flop around during sleep.
Yes, humidity can add to the uncomfortableness of being hot. I didn’t think to separate that out, since it is what we are use to here. I typically sleep in the styles I mentioned, but I know others have mentioned wearing a particular styles to bed like you. Something light and breathable is my choice. Definitely something that can be discussed and added in the comments!
Hey TBD
Thanks for this great and easy to understand article. It gives us great conversation gateways.
I wanted to ask, will there ever be a list of undwear you got from Undiesformen?
Thanks. I’m planning on doing a round up on the DomiGe pairs that Undies for Men sent to me. I have one more review to finish up first. You can go to the following link to see the pairs I have went over so far. https://www.the-bottom-drawer.com/tag/domige/
I wear more of my lighter fabrics during the summer months . Some of my summer favorites are Gregg Homme torridz and yoga thongs . I do have the joe Snyder and Justin+Simon string bikings are similar to the Cut4men string and I like wearing them as well.
JR2, yes I love Gregg Homme too, especially Torridz, but they are so expensive now in Australia, the local price is A$57 which is nuts! I am trying out Cut4Men, I’ll keep everyone informed when I get them, but they do look good.
Wow Mike , that’s is really expensive . Definitely a sale only purchase. I do have some of the cut4men bikinis and thongs I like them , they fit well have great colors and fabrics. I do as well have a briefkini on order
I’ve noticed over the last year I didn’t alter my underwear style based on the weather. I continued to wear my thongs when it was cold and snowy and when it was hot and humid. I do not care for cotton, I feel it traps moisture, especially in the humid months. I did occasionally wear a bikini just to mix it up, but mainly thongs only – it felt odd the times I didn’t wear a thong lol. For sleeping, I always wear my jockey cooling briefs – its modest to wear in front of the kids, but if my daughter had a sleep over, I wore boxers to bed.
